[box]I received a media rate from the Bougainvillea Beach Resort in exchange for my honest review.[/box]
It’s been a week since I returned from my weekend in Barbados and I’m starting to miss it already. Of all the places on earth, why would we go to Barbados? Well, my cousin and I always knew that our family has roots in the island and we’ve never been. Since we were kids, we have been to Trinidad a handful of times and though we enjoy visiting family there, it’s not much of a vacation when going. In addition to finding out similarities and differences between the two islands, we also wanted to get away from the busy city life and celebrate my (then) upcoming 30th birthday.
We stayed at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort which is about 15 minutes from the airport and 5-10 minutes away from Barbados’ popular hangouts Oistin’s and the St. Lawrence Gap. Like most airports, there are flat fare rate fares to all destinations on the island. Our taxi driver tried doubling the price, but my cousin and I knew better. From the time we stepped foot in the lobby of the Bougainvillea Resort, we knew we would have a peaceful stay. There were no fake running water and “night sounds”; it was 100% authentic and we instantly thought ‘Yesssssss’.
Our assigned room wasn’t available yet because we had a 2AM arrival, but the front desk associate Brian was able to find us a room equivalent to the one paid for. We stayed in a Junior Suite that included a queen-sized bed, full bathroom with tub and shower, kitchenette area with a fridge, microwave, hot plate and sink and separate seating areas to watch TV and eat. We also had an outside terrace with lounging area and view overlooking the pool and beach. When waking up the Saturday morning, my cousin was in such disbelief, she had to ‘touch the water to know it was real’. We appreciated that the manager Sue let us stay in our original room instead of switching the next day. It was a plus since we didn’t have to pack our things up to go to the next area.
Some of the resort’s amenities include:

The Bougainvillea Beach Resort also provides entertainment for guests daily. On our last night, we were able to attend the Manager’s Rum Punch party and BBQ Buffet that included live music. They also provide movie night, and live shows throughout the week.
Our overall stay was amazing. From the friendly staff, to the location, beautiful views and great weather, we want to go back. If we plan another cousin’s trip, I’d definitely consider Barbados again. We would also like to do more research on my paternal grandfather’s family to see if we have relatives on the island, so at least a week minimum is needed.
