A few days ago, I went to my first paint nite presented by Yummi Studios at the Post Office Cafe in Babylon, NY. Attending a paint nite has been on my 30 before 30 list, so when my friend asked me to go, I was excited.

The event was called “Piña Colada Paint & Sip”. If you do attend a Paint nite, make sure to read the terms; there are BYOB, alcohol free or a pay at the venue. We thought Piña coladas were included, but they were sold at a discounted $5. Our instructor gave a brief overview of Yummi Studios and the paint nites hosted within Long Island and NYC. While she mentioned one may become frustrated when going through the steps to create our “masterpiece”, our focus should be on having a good time. I was a bit nervous of my final result since I have zero painting skills.

The painting we followed looked pretty tough to reproduce, but following directions step by step wasn’t so bad. I “failed” on more than one occasion, but certain cover ups were able to hide my faults. In addition to painting, my friends and I were able to catch up and talk about what was going on in our personal lives. It had been months since seeing each other, so we had a lot to talk about.

In the end my palm leaves needed love, but we had an overall great time. Getting to the venue was the biggest hassle. If I go to another paint nite, I’ll definitely find one closer to home.

  1. I have always wanted to do one of these painting classes. I have no doubt l would be terrible at it as l suck at painting, but l think it would be fun to try. Yours looks good. What a fun memento.

  2. I haven’t been to a paint night, but it looks like a lot of fun. Your painting looks great. I love the idea of doing something different while reconnecting with friends.

  3. I’ve never had a paint night with girlfriends before…so I’m thinking that’s a great idea to hash out this year with some friends. Maybe we’ll need to start one. 🙂 Yours looks like a lot of fun.

  4. I attended my first paint night at a blogging conference a few years ago of all places! But it was so much fun, and I had no idea I could actually paint something that looks like how it’s supposed to look (we drew a fish in water). You all did a great job!

  5. I’ve never done a paint night! I am artsy fartsy, so I would love something like this! I need to find one near me…. Your painting looks great 🙂
