How To Motivate Yourself When You’re in a Funk
Being a micro influencer is sometimes hard; especially if you want to take it to another level. I wanted to grow this year and at some point, it seemed like I was failing so I just stopped. Sometimes taking a break helps to put you back on the right track and this writing freeze did just that. On my hiatus, I did a lot of things that reminded me of why I started and it motivated me to write again. If you’re a creative and tend to get in a funky mood, here are some ways to motivate yourself to keep going.
Pray About It
I don’t have the best prayer life, but it is a work in progress. Before turning to others, I’ve learned to pray about personal and business related frustrations. Reading the book Fervent has taught me how to be more specific in prayer. I’m not praying just to pray. I’m praying for something specific. Learn to be more strategic with prayer and watch how things change.
Talk to a Friend
A true friend can really pick you up when you’re down. I texted two of my closest friends at an ungodly hour and later that day, one was at my house. I completely broke down because I was honestly overwhelmed and didn’t know what to do. The situation didn’t change, but I felt so much better in the end because I had someone physically there for me. A tough lesson learned was if you’re constantly the one reaching out or have “friends” not supporting you in any capacity, it’s best to just cut them off. The real ones will be there when you need them.
Take Some Time to Evaluate
Hiking to Sant Jeroni I mentioned, “The only way to look back is to see how far you’ve come”. While this is true you should also look back to see what is working or not. Since my frustration was my blog, step #1 was to look at the stats. Was I posting content people liked to see and read? What did better than others? I used the last couple weeks of summer to research trends to execute a new plan.
Make the Change and Move Forward
Last but not least, make the necessary changes and move on. There’s no point in following old traditions that produce bad results. With that being said, its Q4 and I’m looking forward to the change that is coming.
