As you guys know I’ve had A LOT more time to do with my hair being at home. This month I started using the Mielle Organics Pomegranate and Honey Collection. I first learned about Mielle Organics back in 2014 after receiving the Mint Almond Oil in an event swag bag. I wasn’t really a fan and ended up giving the products away. After reading bout the benefits of the Pomegranate and Honey Collection for Type 4 Natural hair, I gave them another chance.
About Mielle Organics
Mielle Organics was created in 2014 by Monique Rodriguez a registered nurse and mom. The brand believes that healthier ingredients lead to healthier hair and skin. Monique used her science background to create products focusing on health from the inside out. In addition to providing hair products for all hair types, Mielle Organics sells skincare and vitamins for children and adults.
About the Pomegranate and Honey Collection
The Mielle Organics Pomegranate and Honey Collection was created specifically for Type 4 Hair. It is formulated to hydrate and define curls, detangle strands, and eliminate frizz. Pomegranate extract is used to soothe frizzy hair while honey acts as a humectant to lock in moisture.
Products included in the Pomegranate and Honey Collection include the Moisturizing and Detangling Shampoo, Moisturizing and Detangling Conditioner, Leave-In Conditioner, Curl Refreshing Spray, Coil Sculpting Custard, Curl Smoothie, and Twisting Soufflé. If you would like to know more about this line, here’s my full wash day using the Mielle Organics Pomegranate and Honey Collection. I also include my Pomegranate and Honey Collection review.
Flat Twist Out with Mielle Organics Pomegranate and Honey Collection
With the exception of the Curl Smoothie and Coil Sculpting Custard, in this video, I used all the products from the Pomegranate & Honey Collection to create this flat twist-out style. See the full demo below.
Moisturizing and Detangling Shampoo,
The Pomegranate & Honey Moisturizing and Detangling Shampoo contain ingredients like honey and babassu oil that are used to lift dirt and oil from your hair and add moisture. I started on an old wash and go wetting my hair with water and separating my hair into four sections. I applied the Moisturizing and Detangling Shampoo and used the tips of my fingers to cleanse my scalp and finger detangled before rinsing it out.
Moisturizing and Detangling Conditioner
The Moisturizing and Detangling Conditioner smooths, moisturizes, and strengthens the hair and helps prevent breakage and split ends. With my hair still in four sections, I applied the Moisturizing and Detangling Conditioner and used my fingers to detangle my hair. I also used a detangling brush on occasion to smooth out my hair even more. After detangling, I then twisted each section before rinsing out the conditioner.
The Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner is described as a “curl primer and detangler”. It has ingredients that are designed to add moisture, prevent frizz, and add shine to thick, curly type 4 hair. After washing and conditioning my hair, I applied the Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner from the roots to tips before applying any of the other products from the collection.
The Twisting Soufflé claims to enhance curls with semi-deep definition and intense hydration. After applying the Leave-in, I followed up with the Pomegranate & Honey Twisting Soufflé to start my flat twist-out style. I applied flat twists around the circumference of my head and sectioned off the crown to do six regular twists.
Coil Sculpting Custard vs Curl Smoothie Wash and Go
A few weeks ago, I did a side-by-side comparison of the Coil Sculpting Custard and the Curl Smoothie. The Coil Sculpting Custard has a light consistency and provides deep definition while the Curl Smoothie provides a soft definition with a medium hold. After applying the Leave-In Conditioner, I separated my hair into two sections. On the right side of my head, I used the Pomegranate and Honey Coil Sculpting Custard and used the Curls Smoothie on the left.
When I was done, the right side of my head was nicely defined by the Coil Sculpting Custard while the Curl Smoothie left a white cast. Instead of diffusing like my regular wash and gos, I air-dried my hair and received a lot of compliments on the Coil Sculpting Custard results. Not only was my hair moisturized, but it was also super shiny using the Coil Sculpting Custard. The white cast eventually went away, but I plan to use the Curl Smoothie for braided and twisted protective styles.
Curl Refreshing Spray
The Curl Refreshing Spray is a water-based spray used to rehydrate an old style and reduce frizz. After taking out the flat twists, I used the Curl Refreshing Spray to add some shine and give a light hold. While the product does what it claims, I usually see the same results when mixing my leave-in conditioners with water and putting them in a spray bottle.
And that is my full Mielle Organics Pomegranate and Honey Collection review. The full collection is great for naturals with thick and curly hair looking for products to keep their hair moisturized, but I don’t think the Curl Smoothie and Curl Refreshing Spray are needed for my styling needs.
