Travel Resources I Use to Travel More With a Full-Time Job

One of the most common questions I get is how I travel so often while working full-time. The short answer: smart planning and the right tools.

After more than a decade of solo and small-group travel, I’ve narrowed down the travel resources I actually use to find flight deals, book hotels, plan experiences, and pack efficiently. This page is a living list of the websites, tools, and products I trust to make travel easier, more affordable, and less stressful.

Whether you’re planning a Caribbean getaway, a long weekend abroad, or your first international trip, these are the travel resources I recommend.

Best Websites to Find Cheap Flights

Finding affordable flights is often what makes a trip possible. These tools help me track prices, compare airlines, and book at the right time.

If you’re flying out of NYC, flexibility and alerts are key. Most Caribbean flight deals I book are nonstop or one-stop routes from JFK, LGA, or Newark.

  • Skyscanner: This is my primary tool for finding cheap flights from NYC to the Caribbean. When I’m flexible on destination, Skyscanner helps me discover affordable Caribbean islands based on travel dates and trip length. This is especially helpful for shoulder-season travel.
  • Google Flights: I use Google Flights to compare Caribbean routes across airlines and track prices from NYC airports. The calendar view makes it easy to find the cheapest days to fly, especially for long weekends.
  • Going (formerly Scott’s Cheap Flights): I use deal alerts to catch fare drops to destinations like Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, and Curaçao. One good deal usually covers the membership fee.
  • Secret Flying: A WhatsApp channel for limited-time deals and finding error fares worldwide.

Best Hotel & Accommodation Booking Sites for Caribbean Travel

Where you stay can make or break a Caribbean trip. I prioritize location, reviews, and flexibility, especially during festival season or peak travel months.

From boutique hotels to longer stays, these platforms make it easy to compare prices and locations.

  • Booking.com: My go-to for Caribbean hotels and boutique stays. I rely on recent reviews and flexible cancellation options when planning island trips.
  • Expedia: I use Expedia when bundling flights and hotels for Caribbean vacations. The map view helps me stay close to beaches, restaurants, and Carnival events.
  • Airbnb – Ideal for unique stays and experiencing destinations like a local.
  • VRBO: Perfect for extended stays or when I want a more local experience. I always filter for well-rated hosts with consistent reviews.

Rental Cars & Transportation Resources

  • DiscoverCars: Compares rental car prices from hundreds of companies worldwide with no hidden fees.
  • Kiwi Taxi: Reliable airport transfers and private transportation, ideal if you don’t want to drive after landing in the Caribbean.
  • Welcome Pickups: Pre-booked airport transfers with professional drivers. This service is great for late arrivals or first-time visits.
  • intui.travel: A global platform for booking airport transfers, shuttles, and private rides.
  • GetRentACar.com: Offers local and international car rental options, often with competitive pricing on islands.

Tours, Activities & Travel Experiences

These platforms help me book excursions without overplanning.

  • Tripadvisor: A great starting point to research activities, restaurants, and attractions.
  • Viator: Perfect for booking excursions, day trips, and guided tours.
  • Get Your Guide: I love this platform for locally-run experiences that highlight culture and connection.
  • Klook: Great for booking local experiences, attractions, and travel essentials
  • Gate 1 Travel: Great for travelers who enjoy guided tours with a balance of culture, exploration, and free time.

Travel Insurance & Safety Essentials

I never travel internationally without insurance.

  • SafetyWing: Affordable, flexible medical coverage for digital nomads.
  • Allianz Travel Insurance & Travel Guard: Best for annual plans if you travel multiple times a year.
  • Compensair: If your flight is delayed, canceled, or overbooked, Compensair helps you claim compensation you may be legally entitled to under EU and UK regulations, beneficial for Caribbean trips routed through Europe.
  • Portable Door Lock & Carbon Monoxide Detector: Small items that add peace of mind in hotels and vacation rentals.

Travel Gear & Packing Essentials

These items make packing lighter and travel days easier:

  • Gonex Compression Packing Cubes
  • Kenneth Cole REACTION Out of Bounds Luggage Set
  • Portable Power Bank
  • International Travel Adapter
  • Portable Luggage Scale
  • Tripod for solo travel and content creation

Airport Comfort & Travel Perks

Flying from NYC often means early departures or long layovers. These perks make travel days more comfortable.

Priority Pass: When flying from JFK or Newark, Priority Pass provides lounge access with food, Wi-Fi, and a quiet space before Caribbean flights. It’s one of the easiest ways to upgrade your airport experience without flying business class.

Staying Connected While Traveling

  • Solis (formerly Skyroam): My preferred mobile hotspot for reliable WiFi worldwide.
  • Airalo: Easy eSIM option for international data.
  • NordVPN: Keeps your connection secure and protects your data abroad.

Travel Credit Cards & Rewards Programs

These cards help me earn points, perks, and lounge access:

  • Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card
  • American Express Platinum Card
  • American Express Business Gold Card
  • Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
  • JetBlue Plus Card
