Before my cruise stop in the Bahamas at the Warwick Paradise Island, I’d NEVER taken a professional photo shoot when traveling. Sitting on my aunt and uncle’s couch in London, I realized I would be in Paris alone with no tripod to take pictures of myself. I’ve heard of many pickpockets targeting solo travelers in Paris and didn’t want to risk someone taking my camera so I did some research and booked a last-minute photoshoot in Paris through Airbnb Experiences Paris. A huge factor in doing a Paris photoshoot was the cost I wanted to pay a photographer that produced quality work for a decent price. If you’ve ever worked with a photographer, you know professional photo shoot prices are not cheap! Photography in Paris is a big business and there are TONS of photographers offering their services. Using Airbnb Experiences Paris made the process of selecting a photography session less overwhelming than experiences on other sites and the price fit my budget.
What are Airbnb Experiences?
Airbnb Experiences is a fairly new service on the Airbnb platform. Experiences include photography sessions, cooking classes, walking tours, day trips and more. According to their official site
Experiences are excursions or other activities designed and led by local hosts. Hosts give guests unique access into places and communities in their city. Hosts can offer both immersions and one day experiences. Immersions happen over multiple days and are offered as is—their schedules can’t be modified. One day experiences can last just a couple of hours. All experiences can range from workshops to long treks, and are available for various skill levels and interests.
Searching for a last-minute photo shoot in Paris was not as difficult as I thought. After logging into my Airbnb account, I used the search option to see who would be available during my 2 days in Paris. You can also type in the destination name and choose between lodging and experiences if the city offers both options. Similarly to picking a place to stay, through Airbnb Experiences, I was able to see a description of the photography session, price, view a mini portfolio of the photographer’s work, and read reviews from past customers. After choosing the photography session and getting approved, I received an email with thorough directions on where to meet for our private photoshoot.
Paris Photoshoot Experience
On the day of my photoshoot in Paris, I met Karina from PicturemeParis at a sandwich shop close to the Trocadéro metro station. Even though I didn’t pack what I thought was photoshoot worthy, Karina still made me feel confident during the photography session. She took photos of me walking along the Seine River, passing by a Parisian cafe, and under the Le Pont de Bir-Hakeim pedestrian bridge. Here are some of my favorite photos from our session.
I absolutely loved Karina’s energy during our shoot. As a local, she gave me a story of each shooting area and offered to hold my bag between shots. We also exchanged travel tips for her upcoming trip to Cuba and mine to Rome. As a solo traveler, Karina understood my struggle for wanting more than selfies in front of landmarks. Taking photos of solo travelers was one of the reasons she started offering photo services on Airbnb Experiences. If you’re looking to do a Paris photoshoot, I definitely recommend booking Karina.
