Many women love their natural hair but do not like to wear their hair in its shrunken state all the time. There are also women that like to prevent single strand knots that come with frequent wash and go’s and limit heat use to prevent heat damage. Luckily, there are several methods of stretching natural hair without heat.

Please keep in mind, in order to get the best effect of these stretched styles you must make sure your hair is fully dry. If you’re looking for easy ways to stretch your natural hair for extra length or before protective styling, here’s how to stretch hair without heat.

Curlformers

Stretching hair with Curlformers is one of the easiest methods for stretching your hair without heat no matter the hair length. Curlformers are available for short, medium and long hair and used on all hair types.

Application and takedown are fairly easy if you do it right. The best part about using Curlformers on natural hair is you end up with cute spiral curls when they dry. You can purchase official Curlformers at Sally’s Beauty Supply. For those of you that like a deal, you can purchase Magic Leverag which are Curlformer dupes.

Braids and Twists

Possibly the most common method for stretching hair is with braids or twists. If you’re stretching natural hair with braids or twists, make sure to separate the hair into medium sections.

When the braids and twists are dry, wear in a braid out or twist out. If you’re stretching natural hair with braids or twists after washing, they can also be done in chunky twists or braids and dried overnight.

Banding

Banding is when you use rubber or elastic hair bands to stretch out the curls in your hair. You have to first comb out sections of hair and then place a hair band around it to make a small ponytail. Each section is banded a few more times to secure in place until the whole head is banded.

  1. I get a great stretch with the curlformers. I absolutely love them. When I do them right, it looks like I have a press and curl. Now I just have to figure out how to maintain the curls for more than a day. My hair, however, remains stretched for several days when I use them. I love this product.
