In recent years, there has been a growing recognition and support for local black-owned businesses in the food and restaurant industry. One of the best things about living in New York City is the variety of restaurants to choose from. Although I’m typically home in the summer, not being able to travel has given me the opportunity to support more Caribbean and Black Owned Businesses close to home.
Brooklyn has become NYC’s hottest borough known for its vibrant culture and culinary scene. From Southern Comfort to Caribbean cuisine and plant based food, there’s something for everyone. In true NYC fashion many of these Black owned restaurants have a variety of menu items from Southern American, Caribbean, African, and Latin cuisines, so expect lots of flavors. From trendy cafes to diverse eateries, Brooklyn has a multitude of dining options that celebrates its various cultures and embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of the black community.
I’ve been to a good amount of these restaurants for brunch, dinner, and drinks with friends and family and I can’t wait to visit more. In the meantime, I’ll continue to support these businesses by ordering take-out, using their catering options for special occasions, and using food delivery services.
