Who doesn’t love a weekend getaway? Back in 2017, I went on a 3-day cruise to The Bahamas with my oldest sister aboard Carnival Victory, and we had the best time. During our trip, I received DMs and emails about what to bring, so I’m sharing what to pack for a cruise to The Bahamas, along with my free printable Bahamas cruise packing list.
Cruising to The Bahamas is the perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, and beautiful scenery. And whether you’re heading out on a 3-day cruise, flying in for a quick weekend getaway, or staying at a resort in Nassau or Paradise Island, packing doesn’t have to be complicated. The key is choosing versatile pieces that work for warm days, breezy nights, and a balance of beach time and casual evenings out.
While this post is cruise-focused, this Bahamas packing list works well beyond cruises, making it easy to reuse for future Caribbean trips.

Best Time to Visit The Bahamas
The best time to visit The Bahamas is between late fall and early spring, when temperatures are warm but not unbearably hot. Days are sunny, evenings can be breezy, and air conditioning on cruise ships and resorts can feel cold.
When packing, think lightweight fabrics, breathable materials, and outfits that transition easily from day to night.
Special Tips for First-Time Cruisers
If it’s your first cruise, keep these tips in mind:
- Pack a carry-on for embarkation day with a change of clothes and essentials since luggage delivery to your cabin can take time.
- Check your cruise line’s dress codes for dining and events before packing.
- Some cruise lines offer themed nights (like Pirate Night), so plan accordingly if you want to participate.
- Water shoes are helpful for beach days and excursions involving reefs.
- Budget for additional expenses, including excursions or specialty dining.
What to Wear on a Bahamas Cruise or Resort Stay
When packing for a 3-day Bahamas cruise, always check the weather forecast and average temperatures. I used packing cubes to organize everything in my carry-on and kept body and hair essentials in a separate toiletry bag. Instead of packing by day, I recommend packing by activity.
Sail Away or Arrival Day
- Sundress or linen romper
- Flat sandals or espadrilles
- Sunglasses
- Light sweater or jacket
Beach or Pool Days
- 2–3 swimsuits
- Cover-ups that double as dresses
- Flip flops or slides
- Straw hat
- Oversized tote or beach bag
Shore Excursions or Exploring
- Breathable shorts or flowy pants
- Tank top or lightweight tee
- Sneakers or water shoes
- Small backpack or crossbody
Casual Evenings & Night Shows
- Maxi dress, two-piece set, or skirt and blouse
- Comfortable dress sandals
- Simple statement jewelry
Formal Night (Cruise)
- Cocktail dress, jumpsuit, or elegant midi
- Heels or dressy flats
- Clutch or small handbag
Footwear to Pack for a Bahamas Trip
Since I pack light, I only brought three forms of footwear. It’s a good idea to get footwear that has multiple uses. Limit yourself to three pairs if possible:
- Comfortable walking sneakers – For walking to and from the port.
- Dressy flat sandals – For formal or casual dinners. You can also wear sandals throughout the duration of the cruise.
- Flip flops – for shower use
Add water shoes if you plan on excursions ike snorkeling or kayaking.
Beach Day Essentials (Cruise or Resort)
No matter how you’re traveling, these items belong on every Bahamas packing list:
- Waterproof phone pouch
- UV-protection sunglasses
- Reusable water bottle
- Lip balm with SPF
- Quick-dry beach towel (if not provided)
What NOT to Pack for The Bahamas
You don’t need to pack your life for a cruise. A cruise to the Bahamas is supposed to be relaxing. Pack for comfort, not excess. Skip these items to save space in your luggage.
- Heavy jeans
- Full-size hair tools
- Too many shoes
- Expensive jewelry
- Bulky handbags
Essentials for Your Bahamas Cruise
Documentation is one of the most important things to pack. Be sure to check in online before heading to the cruise port to speed up boarding. Here are some essential items you’ll need for your cruise ship adventure:
- Valid Passport or Passport Card: Required for international travel.
- Cruise Documents: Keep your cruise itinerary, boarding passes, and reservations handy in a carry-on bag.
- Credit Cards and small amounts of Cash: Necessary for purchases on board and during shore excursions. Remember, some small businesses might not accept cards.
- Prescription Medications: Pack enough for the entire trip and a few extra days, just in case.
- First Aid Kit: Include band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and over-the-counter medications for minor injuries or illnesses.
Toiletries, Beauty & Hair Essentials for Humid Weather
The Bahamas’ heat and humidity call for low-maintenance beauty routines. Since you’ll be on vacation, make sure to pack toiletries and necessary medication. If you’re wearing your natural hair and aren’t protective styling, bring your staple hair products. In addition to basic toiletry bag essentials, make sure to bring along any prescription or over-the-counter medication.
Here are some travel toiletries and travel beauty products I made sure to pack for this 3-day weekend cruise.
- Sunscreen: Essential for sunny days on deck or at the beach.
- Travel-Sized Toiletries: Save space with compact shampoos, conditioners, and body washes.
- Motion Sickness Remedies (3 options): Pack items like wristbands, patches, or medication to prevent seasickness.
- Beach Towels: While some cruise lines provide them, it’s always a good option to bring your own.
- Hair Care Essentials: Include brushes, styling tools, and protective sprays.
- Satin bonnet or scarf: To keep my hair protected while sleeping
For the Cruise Ship and Shore Excursions
Cruise Ship:
- Comfortable Casual Wear: Lounge in shorts, tanks, or casual dresses.
- Dining Room Attire: Dress codes may apply, especially for formal nights.
- Special Occasion Outfit: If celebrating a milestone, pack something elegant.
Shore Excursions:
- Outdoor Adventure Gear: Comfortable clothing and sneakers for exploring.
- Swimwear and Flip Flops: Easy to pack and versatile for port days.
- Waterproof Camera: Capture moments during water-based excursions.
Pro Tip: Research port day activities in advance to pack appropriately for shore excursions.
If you’re going to the beach during your cruise stop, make sure to bring a bag big enough for your sun hat and beach-day essentials.
What to Pack for a 3-Day Cruise to The Bahamas
Because I was traveling from NYC in December, I packed for multiple climates. Below are some clothing suggestions on what to pack for a 3-day cruise to The Bahamas.
- 2 Sundresses – I brought two sundresses to wear at the sail away party and our day trip to the Warwick Bahamas. Sundresses are easy to roll and fit in any carry-on suitcase.
- 2 Pairs of Shorts – Shorts are easy to wear with cute tops and t-shirts, and can be used to cover up when wearing a one-piece bathing suit. I brought two pairs of shorts to wear after coming back from the Warwick Resort and for our day trip to Wynwood.
- 4-6 Tops – Depending on my mood, I usually pack 1-2 tops for every bottom. In addition to needing a top for our day at sea and layover in Miami, I needed a long-sleeved top to go back home to NYC. If you’re going on a 3-day cruise with a large group, you can also consider designing matching t-shirts.
- 1 formal outfit – 3-day cruises come with one formal dinner in the main dining rooms. The best dinner is usually made on this night. Make sure to dress to impress; you have the opportunity to take professional photos on formal night.
- 2 Casual Outfits – For other nights, there is a casual dress code for dinner, night shows, or activities. You can wear a summer dress, a blouse with a skirt, or a two-piece set. If you would rather not dine in the dining room, the Lido deck usually has a more relaxed dress code.
- Swimwear & Coverups – I didn’t spend much time in the pools, but I made sure to pack three bathing suits and coverups for sunbathing on Deck 10, our trip to the Warwick, and beach time in Miami. Pack a variety of swimwear, including bikinis, monokinis, and one-piece swimsuits, because you need options.
- Pajamas and Underwear – For this 3-day cruise, I brought a t-shirt and shorts to wear as pajamas. You can always pack an extra set just in case.
- (Optional) Excursion Outfits – If you plan on taking an excursion, make sure to bring the appropriate gear. You don’t want to be uncomfortable by wearing the wrong type of clothes for water activities or shoes for a walking tour. It’s best to have a bathing suit and a change of clothes to be dry.
- Jeans or Sweats – The saddest part about our cruise was going back home. I made sure to pack some jeans for the cold weather back in NYC.
- Light Jacket or Sweater – I know this is a post about going on a 3-day Bahamas Cruise, but if you’ve ever visited the Caribbean, you know it gets chilly at night. Consider adding a light jacket or sweater to your Bahamas packing list. If you’re ALWAYS COLD like me, the air conditioner in dining and activities may be a bit much for you. It also comes in handy when walking on the deck or being out on the balcony at night. Being on and by the water, you can definitely encounter a cold front.
Electronics
I also made sure to include electronic essentials. Below are the must-have electronics I included in my Bahamas cruise packing list.
- Camera & Lenses – A benefit of traveling with a photographer is getting dope pictures. I brought my Sony a6000 and used the kit lens, a 50mm lens, and a 75-200mm lens.
- Cell Phone – At the time, I had an iPhone 5s. I took some photos with this, too.
- Charging cables – Along with my cell phone, I needed a charger for my camera.
- GoPro or another action camera (optional): I have one, but I barely use it. If you want to vlog your 3-day cruise, a GoPro is a good choice.
