CURLFEST NYC: Floral Romper + Fulani Braids
It’s been some time since my last style post, and I wanted to share my look from CURLFEST NYC. CURLFEST is an annual Natural Hair and Beauty event in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Naturals from all over the world come together to celebrate the Natural Hair Community and support Black Owned Businesses. With the potential to be in photos, I chose to wear a floral romper and sneakers with Fulani braids.
This Ruffle High-neck Romper was purchased from Target in preparation for my trip to Cuba. I didn’t wear it on vacation but still kept it in my mind to wear for CURLFEST NYC. I’ve been loving the cold shoulder and floral trends, so many of my purchases this Spring and Summer were these types of pieces. It’s easy to go from day to night to pair with wedges, flats, or heeled sandals.
Hair & Jewelry for Curlfest NYC
CURLFEST is a Natural Hair Summer Festival, so I wanted to wear an in-trend hairstyle and rock my ‘fro. I went to YouTube and saw a cute tutorial by Naptural85 with Fulani-inspired beads and braids. Check out the video below that shows how I achieved the look.
I used Jane Carter Solution’s Curls to Go Curl Cocktail to do my Fulani braids and added hair beads. To add some color, I wore a necklace from Reshma Closet new summer collection. This necklace comes with earrings, but I wanted a contrast with the wood earrings and color like my beads.
The energy of the crowd and the celebration of blackness made CURLFEST amazing. I seriously can’t wait for next year. Here are some photos of my day.
